Meet Katie Jo
I am passionate about living closely with the natural world around us, reconnecting to nature and finding healing through plants, intuition and natural remedies.
I am an herbalist, avid wildcrafter and forager and I love growing my own food. I love teaching workshops and going on plant walks in my home state of beautiful Michigan! Now I have authored several books on helping people learn how to identify common medicinal plants and how to create your own herbal remedies!
I am a plant advocate, trying to restore awareness and gratitude between people and the green world. I believe that we become more alive and vibrant when we work in tandem with the earth and through the cycles of nature. Working with plants is an honor and can restore our health in ways that we have forgotten.
Plant Medicine made with intention.
Each one of my creations is made with the upmost intention. It all starts with the connection to the land. There is a lot of behind the scenes that happens before I pour something into a bottle or label a package.
The plants drew me in over 10 years ago, I dove deep into how plants can help us heal. At first I was reading every herbalism book I could. Making basic herbal medicine formulas for my self and family and experimenting with what worked and what didn’t. I worked primarily with dried herbs and felt like I was really grasping herbal energetics, clinical herbalist and more.
But I realized I needed more. I was enchanted by the natural world. Drawn into the plants, how they grew and how they provided more that just chemical constituents. I began to learn about the plants growing in my own ecosystem. I hovered over plant identification books and field guides, spending hours in the woods meeting plants and identifying them in the wild. I attended plant walks in my own bio-region and began growing fresh herbs in my garden.
From there I began working with fresh plants, knowing when each plant was ready to harvest within each season and following along with the rhythms of the earth. Working with land and plants around me, I felt a magic click into place. An ancestral calling that had finally been realized.
Each bottle of plant medicine is created with intention, creativity, knowledge and intuition, Here are some things you never need to question, even if I don’t find it on the label;
the plants in my products are either wildcrafted, grown by me, grown by someone trusted, organic and always sourced in themes ethical manner I can find.
the other ingredients in my products (oil, alcohol, essential oils, beeswax, shea butter, ect.. are all organic, ethically sourced
I practice slow herbalist and folk medicine methods. This combines a bit of science and a bit of experience.
Medicine making is my art form, I absolutely love creating and infusing each blend with love and intention. Medicine making is my way of remembering how my ancestors (and all of our ancestors) used to live. It is how I can keep this important tradition alive, which I feel is important in these times.
I believe that plant medicine should be incorporated into everyone’s life. Whether making a cup of tea, tending to a garden , making remedies, or simply sitting in the woods, each interaction within the natural world is potent, deep and it helps us remember how interconnected we are, how to remember our relationship with the land, and with our own inner cycles. Each bottle, tin, or package that might find itself in your hands, is not only a potent bottle of plant medicine, but represents all of these intentions.
